Default Build #14 - Basswood Jazzmaster (For Scott)

This, I hope, will be a fun one. It's a Jazzmaster-style body made out of one solid piece of 1-3/4" basswood. It's Jazzmaster styled because I don't have a Jazzmaster to physically examine. I'm just using some different PDFs as reference as well as my Jaguar. (The horn is slightly different.) Then I'm J i m m y-ing it just a little.
So here's the deal:

I'm hoping that everything goes smoothly on this one. The wood is primo (if you dig basswood). As I mentioned, there's not a single joint in it.

I thought that I was going to have to add a piece to it to make it wider. Somehow my Jazzcaster template came out much too large and measured over 15" across the butt. It just seemed wrong so I picked up my Jaguar today to use as a reference. Glad that I did!

As a side note, I ordered another basswood blank from the same dealer tonight. I emailed him to see if I could get a deal if I buy in bulk. Though it's relatively soft, I like basswood. It's not for everyone but I figure, if Fender could use it on their Japanese Mustangs, it's good enough for me.

By the way, this is just a preliminary drawing. There are going to be several changes. First and foremost, the control cavity needs to be shifted about a 1/2" closer to the edge of the body.

I always liked the looks of Jags. Do you plan on staining this guitar?

That's cool. Good thing you double checked your size. Don't need a mega master like that Tele body.

As far as I know, I'm only cutting it out and routing it. The finishing will probably be done on the other end.

I don't know what was going on with my templates. I got them to 100% on screen and then they printed out much larger. To make sure everything lined up on this one I put paper over my screen and traced a few things out.

Been there too. I still haven't figured out the whole "fit to size" thingy. If I have something important to print, I have my brother-in-law do it. He's a photographer and has the nice equipment. He also has a sensor for his computer screen that makes sure the colors on the screen are true to life. If I have to custom order paint, I'll be checking it out on his computer first.

That's good that you have someone knowledgeable in that area.
I just went back and rechecked a bunch of measurements. About a week ago, I printed out a Mosrite drawing at what I thought was 100%. Looking at it now, it would have been enormous.

Before you print, you need to click to preview, I find that the reg size is about 90%

I'll check into that. The print preview always looks just right but something happens during the print stage.
